The Great Blue Heron (a.k.a. Ardea herodias) can be located in marshes, coastlines and shores all over the continental US.  It's another Chesapeake icon that anyone from the area is familiar with! A white version exists in the Southeast and is called the Great White Heron (I think I prefer our blue one ;-).
